The Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) has announced that the temporary certification policy for non-Wi-Fi cellular devices and non-Ethernet media IPv6 products, such as fiber optics, will officially end on July 10, 2025. After this date, all related products must pass full IPv6 compliance testing to gain market access, and the renewal review of existing certificates will also follow the new regulations.
1. Pure Cellular Communication Devices (without Wi-Fi capability)
• Typical Products: 4G/5G IoT terminals, industrial-grade cellular modules
• New Requirement: Removal of previous testing exemptions, complete IPv6 protocol stack verification is required
2. Non-Ethernet Transmission Devices
• Typical Products: Fiber optic communication gateways, private network transmission devices
• New Requirement: Provide proof of IPv6 compatibility with media characteristic adaptation
3. Certificate Renewal Devices
• Scope: Products with expiring Certificates of Conformity (CoC)
• Mandatory Clause: IPv6 testing required for certificate renewal, expired certificates will become invalid
• Integrated Wi-Fi Devices: Testing can be completed at any internationally recognized laboratory, with reports valid globally
• Pure Cellular/Non-Ethernet Devices: Must undergo media compatibility testing (including cellular air interface protocol verification, etc.) at a SIRIM authorized laboratory
