C-tick is a certification mark issued by the Australian Communications Authority (ACA) for communication equipment. The C-tick certification is part of Australia's EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) program. Laboratories provide C-tick test reports, and Australian importers use these test reports to register the products.
Electromagnetic compatibility in Australia is monitored by the ACA. Under Australia's EMC system, products are divided into three categories. Suppliers must register with the ACA and apply for the use of the C-tick mark before selling products in categories two and three.
Category One Products: These are products with low interference radiation to devices using the radio spectrum, such as manual switches, simple relays, single-phase squirrel-cage induction motors, resistors, etc. The use of the C-tick mark is voluntary for these products during production and sale.
Category Two Products: These are products with higher interference radiation to devices using the radio spectrum, such as switch-mode power supplies, welding machines, dimmers, most household appliances, etc.
Category Three Products: These are products with the highest interference radiation to devices using the radio spectrum, covered by CISPR11 and CISPR22 standards. Since only registered companies in Australia or New Zealand can apply for the use of the C-tick mark with the ACA, applications can be made through Australian or New Zealand buyers or certification bodies with branches/partners in Australia or New Zealand.
