KC (Korea Certification) certification, formerly known as EK certification, is Korea’s electrical and electronic product safety certification system. The kc mark certification is a mandatory safety certification system implemented by the Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) based on the Electrical Appliances Safety Control Act, effective from January 1, 2009.
KC certification covers a wide range of products, including electrical appliances, household items, and children's products. If the use or characteristics of a consumer product could harm consumer health or safety, or if the product poses an environmental pollution risk, it must obtain KC certification. The certification requirements for products can be consulted through certified laboratories or directly from authoritative Korean institutions (businesses must provide technical specifications and other information).
The latest Electrical Appliances Safety Control Act categorizes KC Safety certification into three levels based on different hazard levels:
1. Mandatory Safety Certification (Safety Certification);
2. Self-Regulatory Safety Confirmation (Self-regulatory Safety Confirmation);
3. Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (sdoc).
1. High Temperature Storage Test;
2. Temperature Cycling Test;
3. External Short Circuit Test;
4. Crushing of Cells Test;
5. Cell Protection Against a High Charging Rate Test;
6. Thermal Abuse Test.
The cost varies depending on the product category and testing standards. There are two application methods: direct application or using a cb certificate for conversion. The typical cost for standard products is around $4200.
