IC stands for Industry Canada, the former name of the Canadian government department now known as Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). It mandates that wireless products sold in Canada must have IC certification, which serves as a passport and essential requirement for entering the Canadian market. IC certification applies to products such as broadcasting equipment, information technology devices, radio equipment, and telecommunications equipment. The certification process and testing items are similar to those of the FCC, and joint applications with the FCC are generally possible. ISED sets the testing standards for analog and digital terminal equipment for electronic and electrical products entering the Canadian market and clarifies the IC certification requirements for products entering Canada.
Recently, Amazon has been spot-checking products on its Canadian site, and products that do not meet ISED standards risk being removed, especially those with wireless functions like Bluetooth headsets, Bluetooth speakers, wireless mice, projectors, etc. Amazon requires ISED certification for these products; otherwise, their listings will be taken down.
ISED certification is essentially the IC-ID certification. IC was officially renamed Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED).
Amazon.ca has announced that IC certification standards must be reflected in PMN and HVIN according to the Radiocommunication Act's conventional certification for Canada, including IC ID, ICES-003, RSS-247, IC ID naming format, labeling, and warning statements in manuals, as well as Canadian energy efficiency NRCan requirements.
1. User Manual
2. Schematics (must match the crystal oscillator frequency, number of oscillators, and locations in the block diagram)
3. Block Diagram (showing all crystal oscillators and frequencies, matching the schematics)
4. Wireless Module Technical Parameters (frequency range, number of channels, maximum transmission power, antenna gain, modulation method, etc.)
5. Operational Description (in English)
6. Product Software, Hardware, and Wireless Versions
7. Label
8. Local Agent Information
1. Must have a Canadian representative address.
2. The label must include the following information: manufacturer name or trademark, model name, IC ID number.
- 2.4G WIFI/BT: RSS-247 Issue 2, February 2017
- GSM: RSS-132 issue 3, January 2013
- GSM: RSS-133 Issue 6, Amendment 1, January 18, 2018
- SAR: RSS 102 Issue 5, March 19, 2015; Amendment 1, February 2, 2021; IEEE 1528:2013; IEC 62209-1:2005, IEC 62209-2:2010
- ICES: ICES-003 Issue 7, October 15, 2020; ICES-005 Issue 5, December 2018; ICES-001 Issue 5, July 2020; ICES-Gen Issue 1, July 2018, Amendment 1, February 2021
- Radiation Method: RF radiation fixed frequency prototype (keeping the original transmission antenna)
- Conduction Method: RF direct measurement fixed frequency prototype (removing the original transmission antenna and soldering the direct measurement line to the maximum transmission power point of the original antenna)
Special attention is needed for fixed frequency prototypes for multi-channel working products. If it's a single-channel prototype, please provide a continuous transmission prototype.
