India's WPC (Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing) is the regulatory body overseeing wireless regulations in India. All wireless products entering India must obtain WPC approval.
WPC certification applies to devices with radio transmitters. This includes mobile phones (GSM or WCDMA), wireless local area network (WLAN) devices such as Wi-Fi devices, Bluetooth devices, Zigbee devices, WiMAX devices, RFID devices, contactless smart card readers, and other products incorporating RF transmitters.
Wireless products in India can be certified under two modes: ETA (Equipment Type Approval) certification and License approval. The determination is based on the operating frequency band used by the equipment. For free and open frequency bands like 13.56 MHz, 433 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.725-5.825 GHz, ETA certification is required. For other non-open frequency bands, such as GSM or WCDMA mobile phones, a License is required.
For ETA certification, India accepts European standards, and WPC grants certificates based on audit reports. For License approval, the products must meet Indian standards.
For ETA applications, the products do not need to be tested locally in India. Products with R&TTE reports can be submitted to WPC for approval.
- Product RF test report (provided by the testing laboratory according to EN 300 328 standards);
- Product technical datasheet;
- Authorization and agreement letter from the foreign manufacturer.
- The client submits samples and documentation, and the application is submitted to NTEK;
- Submit CE RED reports and related documents to WPC (if no CE RED report is available, NTEK conducts testing and issues a CE RED test report);
- WPC reviews the application and issues the ETA certificate upon approval.
