What does RoHS mean?

RoHS certification is a mandatory standard enacted by EU legislation. Its full name is the "Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive." This standard has been officially implemented since July 1, 2006, primarily to regulate the material and process standards of electronic and electrical products to be more beneficial to human health and environmental protection.

RoHS certification, also known as the European Environmental Directive, stipulates that all electronic and electrical products exported to Europe must not contain the following ten toxic and hazardous substances: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP). It specifically mandates that the cadmium content must not exceed 0.01%.

RoHS Latest Standard/RoHS2.0

The EU RoHS2.0 test includes 10 items (2011/65/EU), which is the latest RoHS standard; on July 21, 2011, the revised RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) replaced the old RoHS Directive with 6 items (2002/95/EC).

In May 2022, the EU released a proposal procedure to restrict substances under the RoHS Directive, planning to include medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBP-A) in the list of restricted substances. Relevant companies can closely follow and prepare for compliance in advance.

RoHS Testing Items

The content of the following substances in the product's homogeneous materials must not exceed the limit values:

- Lead (Pb): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Mercury (Hg): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr(VI)): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Cadmium (Cd): 100 mg/kg (0.01%)

- Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Benzyl Butyl Phthalate (BBP): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)

- Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP): 1000 mg/kg (0.1%)
