WERCS certification is a product registration certification required for products entering large supermarkets and retailers in countries like the United States and Canada. It is a supply chain safety management system developed by The WERCS, a U.S. company, designed for medium and large retailers.
The supply chain safety management system enables:
- Unified and effective management of a vast network of suppliers and products.
- Assessment and arrangement of target and existing products for easier screening.
- Quick and convenient access for retailers to accurate compliance and sustainability data, via an industry-leading retail program.
This program provides suppliers with a secure and intuitive way to submit and edit critical product and chemical composition data required for complete hazard communication. The product information registered by suppliers is directly transmitted to retailers.
This authoritative review and certification process simplifies and facilitates collaboration between suppliers and retailers. Suppliers registered with WERCSmart are undoubtedly the preferred procurement choice for retailers.

1. WERCSmart Registration for Battery Products
a. Registration of batteries not directly sold to retailers
These batteries are only used as components in other electronic products sold under independent brands. These batteries do not have UPC/GTIN codes and are registered in the WERCSmart system by battery suppliers. Other electronic product suppliers can link the battery information during their own product registration.
b. Registration of batteries directly sold to retailers
These batteries have UPC/GTIN codes and are registered in the WERCS system. The system will transfer relevant information to the designated downstream retailers specified during registration.
2. WERCSmart Registration for Electronic Products Containing Batteries
Registering electronic products containing batteries involves two steps:
- Step 1: The battery supplier registers the battery information in the WERCSmart system and adds the supplier’s name to the WERCS battery supplier list (each battery supplier must register independently if there are multiple suppliers).
- Step 2: The electronic product supplier registers the electronic product and selects the battery information from the list. The battery information is linked through the supplier listed in the system.
From this process, it is clear that SDS management for electronic products containing batteries primarily focuses on the battery.
