1. What are GCC and UL4200A?

The new regulations for button batteries in the United States have received compliance requirements in the background. General Certificate of Conformity (GCC), a test report issued by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
It is a document issued by a manufacturer or importer stating that its product complies with the UL 4200A standard, which is based on a test report showing compliance with the UL 42010A standard.

Testing by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory confirms compliance with the requirements of UL 4200a, which has been adopted by 16 CFR Part 1263 (Button or coin cells and consumer products containing such batteries). The test report must contain a picture of the product to prove that the inspected product is the same as the product posted on the product details page,
that is, the product picture, just upload the product picture.

2. What information must the image show?

    1. Product model, part or product number
    2. Warning on the packaging (required) and the product battery box (if feasible). The following message in bold and capital letters must be included:

  • The word "Warning" in black letters on an orange background

  • Ingestion Hazard: This product contains a button cell or coin cell battery.

  • If ingested, may cause death or serious injury.

  • Swallowed button or coin cell batteries can cause internal chemical burns within 2 hours

3. What products are covered by the US GCC certification:

Children's products (non-toys) using button cells or button batteries must be tested under 16 CFR 1263 and require a CPSC-approved third-party testing provider to support CPSC submission. Except for toys.
Consumer products containing button batteries include, but are not limited to: calculators, cameras, flameless candles, flashing clothing, shoes and boots, holiday decorations, keychain flashlights, musical greeting cards, remote controls and clocks.
Product images refer to the product images you sell, but with battery warning information, including warning words and warning labels.

Because button batteries are risky for children, when exporting to the United States, in addition to the necessary test reports, labels, and warning information are required.

4. Test reports from ISO 17025-accredited laboratories showing compliance with UL 4200A. Warning label requirements

a) Safety battery compartment test: The product must have a child-resistant battery compartment that cannot be easily entered by young children.
b) Warning label: The packaging and the product itself must have clear warnings about potential choking hazards and risks associated with button battery ingestion. 5.
