UL certification is an abbreviation for certification issued by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), an American-based safety testing organization. UL is the most authoritative safety testing agency in the United States and one of the largest independent organizations globally focused on safety testing and certification. It is an independent, profit-oriented organization that conducts tests to ensure public safety.
Using scientific testing methods, UL assesses the potential hazards and the degree of risk various materials, devices, products, equipment, and buildings may pose to life and property. It also establishes and publishes relevant standards and data to help reduce and prevent damage to life and property. UL also conducts field research services.
Based on UL’s different service types, the UL mark is categorized into three types: LISTED, Classified, and Recognized. UL's services are not only based on US UL standards but also Canadian standards (cUL). Therefore, the UL mark is also divided into categories for UL products, cUL products, or products that meet both standards. The "us" in the lower-right corner indicates applicability to the US, and the "c" in the lower-left corner indicates applicability to Canada. If both "us" and "c" are present, the product is applicable in both countries.

UL certification requires factory inspection. When a company applies for UL certification for the first time, it must complete a factory inspection before obtaining the UL certificate. The purpose is to ensure product consistency and the correct use of the ETL logo. Once the certificate is obtained, shipments can be arranged. Subsequent certifications for similar products do not require factory inspection before certification is issued.
UL conducts factory inspections quarterly, with a total of four factory inspections each year.
