Recently, Amazon US has introduced a certification standard, UL 9990, specifically for Type-C data cables. The platform now requires all Type-C data cables sold on Amazon to pass this certification; otherwise, they will be removed from the platform.
In response to a series of electronic product fire incidents, U.S. regulatory authorities have issued laws targeting e-commerce platforms. These laws require Amazon to notify overseas sellers on its platform to provide safety compliance reports. Until a UL-standard test report is submitted, Amazon is obligated to stop the sale of uncertified products. Additionally, the test report must be issued by a laboratory accredited under ISO 17025/ILAC ISO 17025 standards.
It is important to note that UL 9990 certification required by Amazon is not an official UL certification but rather a compliance test report based on UL standards.
