In the safety standards for lighting products, there are two major standard systems:
IEC and ANSI/UL&CSA.
The IEC standard, set by the International Electrotechnical Commission, is adopted by most countries, including Europe, Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region. These standards are also converted or equivalently adopted as national or regional standards such as EN, AS/NZS, GB, etc.
- IEC 60598 (Lighting Fixtures)
- Part 1: General requirements for lighting fixtures.
- Part 2: Supplementary requirements for over 20 types of lighting fixtures (e.g., fixed, portable, string lights, emergency lights, etc.)
- EN 61347 (Ballasts, Transformers, Drivers, and Other Lighting Control Devices)
- Part 1: General safety requirements for lighting control devices.
- Part 2: Supplementary requirements for specific devices (e.g., tungsten lamps, fluorescent lamps, discharge lamps, neon lights, and electronic or inductive ballasts).
- EN 60968 (Energy-efficient Lamps)
- IEC 62031 (LED Modules)
- IEC 62560 (LED Light Sources)
The ANSI/UL & CSA standard system differs significantly from the IEC system. UL & CSA standards are product-specific, leading to numerous product standards, including:
- UL1598
- UL153
- UL1573
- UL1574
- UL962
- UL1786
- UL924
- UL1993
- UL588
- UL935
- UL1029
- UL1012
- UL2161
and corresponding CSA specifications.
For LED products, the UL 8750 standard is used, in conjunction with various application-specific product standards.
For lighting products used in areas such as bathrooms, gardens, and outdoor environments, IP code testing is required. The IP rating indicates the dustproof and waterproof levels of electrical equipment. The specific meanings of the two-digit code in the IP rating can be found in IEC/EN 60529.
In addition to the standards above, China JJR Laboratory also offers tests for:
- IK Mechanical Protection Levels for enclosures
- Other safety-related tests
