As is well known, electronic products entering Taiwan are subject to regulation in terms of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Safety. The regulatory body responsible for this is the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) under Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. In addition, low-power and telecom terminal products are regulated by the National Communications Commission (NCC).
The Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) under Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs is primarily responsible for overseeing Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Safety.
According to the CCC Code, the certification modes are divided into three categories:
- Registration of Product Certification (RPC);
- Type Approval Batch Inspection (TABI);
- Declaration of Conformity (DOC).
A. In accordance with the provisions of the "Product Inspection Mark Usage Regulations":
- ① Marking Drawing Method:
- No fixed size is specified, but the appropriate size must be marked on the product body proportionally;
- The mark should be made of durable material, be clear and identifiable, and be permanently fixed to the product;
- Other markings on the product should not confuse or make it difficult for consumers to identify the inspection mark.
- ② Marking Location:
- The mark should be placed on the product body. If the product is too small, it can be marked in the following ways:
- Mark on the smallest unit of packaging;
- Hang a tag on the product;
- Place a marking inside the packaging;
- Use other methods approved by BSMI.
- The drawing and identification number must comply with BSMI requirements.
The National Communications Commission (NCC) is primarily responsible for regulating low-power & telecom terminal products.
- Full Module: A product checklist is required in compliance with regulations;
- Restricted Module: A platform extension is required in compliance with regulations.
- ① Proportion and Baseline Requirements: Applicable for large advertisements and signs where exact scaling cannot be used, preventing logo distortion;
- ② Minimum Usage Size: The logo should not be smaller than 15mm to ensure clarity and legibility.
- ① Telecom Terminal Equipment Technical Specifications: As per Article 16 of the "Telecom Terminal Equipment Technical Specifications and Inspection Regulations";
- ② Label Location: If the product body is too small, the logo should be printed on the smallest unit of packaging. The color must be monochromatic, clear, and easily identifiable.
- WWAN Products and BSMI Certification:
- Check the CCC Code or use the manual/specifications to inquire whether a BSMI certificate is required and whether the BSMI logo should be displayed.
- WWAN Routers: Starting from January 1, 2024, WWAN routers are removed from the BSMI mandatory list and only need an NCC certificate, no BSMI logo is required.
- WWAN Laptops: No BSMI certificate is required, only an NCC certificate is needed, and no BSMI logo is required.
