How to Get KC Certification for Bluetooth Speakers?

Views :
Update time : 2024-10-03

Before selling Bluetooth speakers in the South Korean market, KC (Korea Certification) certification is requiRED to ensure that the product complies with Korea's telecommunications and electromagnetic compatibility regULations. Here are the general steps for obtaining KC certification for Bluetooth speakers:

Confirm Applicable Regulations

First, confirm the specific regulations applicable to Bluetooth speakers in Korea, which typically include:

1. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing

2. Testing for Wireless Devices (such as Bluetooth)

3. Safety Testing

Prepare Technical Documents

Prepare the necessary technical documents, including but not limited to:

1. Product description

2. Schematic diagram

3. Block diagram

4. User manual

5. Label layout

6. BOM (Bill of Materials)

7. PCB layout

8. Product photos

Select a Testing Laboratory

Choose a testing laboratory accredited by the South Korean government to conduct the required tests. These labs are usually certified by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS), such as Shenzhen JJR Testing Laboratory.

Conduct Testing

Testing usually includes:

1. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing

2. Radio Frequency (RF) Testing: Specifically for the Bluetooth module

3. Safety Testing: Ensuring that the product meets South Korean safety standards

   1. Electrical Safety Testing (According to Korean safety standards)

   - Standard: Korea’s KC electrical safety standards typically reference international standards like IEC 60065 (safety requirements for audio, video, and information technology equipment).

   - Test items include:

     - Electrical strength test

     - Leakage current test

     - Overload protection test

     - High-temperature resistance test

     - Ground resistance test (if applicable)

   2. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing

   - Standard: Korea’s EMC test standards are based on CISPR 32 (requirements for multimedia equipment regarding radiation emission and immunity) and CISPR 35 (immunity requirements for information technology equipment).

   - Test items include:

     - radiated emission test

     - Conducted emission test

     - Immunity test (electrostatic discharge, RF electromagnetic field, fast transient burst, etc.)

   3. Radio Frequency (RF) Testing

   - Standard: Korean standards for wireless devices are typically based on CISPR 11 or ETSI EN 300 328 (technical requirements for wireless devices and systems in the 2.4 GHz band for Bluetooth devices).

   - Test items include:

     - Frequency stability test

     - Transmit power test

     - Occupied bandwidth test

     - Adjacent channel power test

     - Transmit frequency error test

   4. Energy Efficiency Testing (If Applicable)

   - Some products may also need energy efficiency testing based on standards outlined in the Korea Energy Management Law.

   5. Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Testing

   - According to Korea’s RoHS requirements, the content of hazardous substances like lead, mercury, and cadmium must meet standard limits. These tests usually align with international RoHS standards.

Prepare and Submit the Certification Application

After completing the tests, prepare the certification application and submit it to the relevant certification body in Korea. The application typically includes:

1. Test reports

2. Technical documentation

3. Usage method for the KC mark

4. Other supporting documents

Obtain the KC Mark

Once the certification application is approved, you will receive the kc certification. After obtaining certification, you need to mark the product with the KC mark correctly, as it is a legal requirement that indicates the product has passed KC certification.

Label the KC Mark

Ensure the KC mark is clearly visible on the product and the user manual, and that it complies with the relevant requirements.

Maintain Certification Status

Ensure that the product's design and manufacturing process continue to meet KC certification requirements. Any design changes may require re-testing and re-certification.

Key Considerations:

1. Certification Fees: KC certification costs include testing fees, certification application fees, etc. The exact cost depends on the product’s complexity and the number of required tests.

2. Timeline: The time to obtain certification varies depending on factors like product complexity, testing speed, and the completeness of application documents.
