Since 2016, the IC (Industry Canada) has officially changed its name to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). ISED is now responsible for the certification of electronic and electrical products entering the Canadian market. The previous wireless device IC Certification Number has been renamed to ISED Certification Number, but its format on labels remains unchanged: IC: XXXXX-YYYYYYYYY.
1. IC Certification: This is primarily for electronic products without wireless functionality, such as power supplies, household appliances, and computer peripherals.
2. IC-ID Certification: This is for electronic products with wireless functionality, such as Bluetooth devices, tablets, wireless keyboards, wireless mice, wireless readers, wireless transceivers, walkie-talkies, wireless microphones, remote controls, wireless network devices, wireless video transmission systems, and other low-power wireless products like 2G phones, 3G phones, 3.5G phones, DECT phones (1.8G, 1.9G frequency bands), and wireless intercoms.
Wireless and telecommunications equipment.
Wireless Products:RSS 247/248/210/216/132/133/130/139/199|
ISED certification standards are largely in line with the FCC. Currently, ISED only restricts electromagnetic interference.
- ICES-001 (Analog devices): Industrial, Scientific, and Medical Radio Frequency.
- ICES-003 (Digital terminal devices): ICES003: ITE products and computer peripherals.
- ICRS Series: Low-power wireless RF products for transmitting and receiving devices. For example, RSS210 applies to products like wireless mice and keyboards, wireless remote-controlled toys, and various low-power wireless RF products. CS03 applies to telecommunications terminal products (PSTN).
1. ICES-003 Standard: Products must have the warning message CAN ICES-3 ()/NMB-3 () on the label, where the asterisk () refers to the product category, e.g., CAN ICES-3 (B)/NMB-3 (B).
2. In wireless regulations under RSP-100, the ISED certification mark requires the following concepts: Product Marketing Name (PMN), Hardware Version Identification Number (HVIN), Firmware Version Identification Number (FVIN), and Host Marketing Name (HMN).
3. HVIN and ISED certification numbers should be permanently marked on the product exterior (or displayed electronically per electronic label requirements).
4. The ISED certification number should be prefixed with “IC:”, and the format is IC: XXXXXX-YYYYYYYYYYY, where XXXXXX is assigned by ISED, and YYYYYYYYYYY is a combination of letters or numbers defined by the manufacturer.
5. The PMN must be displayed electronically (via electronic label), or clearly marked on the product, product packaging, or documentation, and should be available with the product or online.
6. If the product is very small, the label can be placed in a prominent position in the user manual, which can be in electronic format.
7. The product or user manual should also display notices. Brand owners must follow these rules when designing notices:
a. Notices must be in a prominent location in the manual or on the product.
b. The testing standards for the product must be indicated.
c. If the product has multiple versions, each version must be listed.
d. The notice should be in both English and French. If the application only includes the English notice, the applicant must provide a written statement confirming that both English and French versions will be available when the product is sold.

5. Application Form
6. Samples, etc.
- Certification Timeline: 3 weeks
- Certificate Validity: Long-term
1. Submit samples, the application form, and related documents.
2. Arrange for testing.
3. Upon passing the test, a report is created, followed by a draft report. After customer approval, it is submitted to the FCB (Federal Certification Bureau) for issuance of the certificate.
