UKCA stands for United Kingdom Conformity Assessed, which is the new product certification introduced after Brexit. Electronic and electrical products entering the UK market need to pass standard tests under UK regulations and obtain the UKCA certification. Products must bear the UKCA mark, replacing the EU's CE mark for use in the UK market. Similar to the EU's regulations, electronic and electrical products in the UK must undergo UKCA certification.
The difference between UKCA certification and CE certification is minimal, with fees also being charged according to directives. However, the specific cost will depend on the particular product (the following costs are for reference only).
For example, conventional household appliances are categorized into high voltage (110-220V) and low voltage (below 75V).
China's JJR Laboratory charges for UKCA certification are as follows:
- High voltage products: $660
- Low voltage products: $600
If your product has wireless functionality, the specific wireless function, Bluetooth version, etc., need to be determined.
Required documents and sample requirements for applying for UKCA certification:
1. Document requirements: Instruction manual, schematic diagram, principle operation description, block diagram, PCB silkscreen diagram, PCB position diagram, PCB BOM, product label.
2. Sample requirements: 2 finished product prototypes, 1 conduction legal frequency prototype, and 1 radiation legal frequency prototype.
The UKCA mark, like the CE mark, requires the manufacturer to ensure that the product complies with the legally required standards. After self-declaration according to the stipulated procedures, the corresponding mark is placed on the product. Manufacturers can seek testing from qualified third-party laboratories to prove that the product meets the relevant standards and obtain a Declaration of Conformity (AoC). Based on this, manufacturers can make their own Declaration of Conformity (DoC). The DoC must include key information such as the manufacturer's name and address, and the product model.
The UKCA certification will replace the currently implemented EU CE certification, and most products will fall within the scope of the UKCA certification. However, in terms of market access for electrical products, the CE marking scheme will continue to be implemented.
