For many clients looking to export to Japan, MIC certification is commonly used. This certification is a mandatory requirement for wireless products entering the Japanese market. MIC in MIC certification stands for Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), which governs Japan's Radio Law and Telecommunications Business Law. Previously, certification under the Radio Law was also known as TELEC certification. However, from a professional perspective, referring to it as Japan's MIC certification is more official. In summary, TELEC certification is equivalent to MIC certification.
Wireless RF products include Bluetooth products, ZigBee products, telemetry devices, WiFi products, wireless microphones, pagers, LTE•RFID (2.4GHz, 920MHz) products, UWB radio systems, GSM products, etc.
1. Frequency Error Measurement
2. Occupied Bandwidth and Spread-spectrum Bandwidth/Factor
3. Unwanted Emission Intensity Measurement
4. Antenna Power Error Measurement
5. Limitation of Collateral Emission of Receiver Measurement
6. Transmission Antenna Gain (EIRP Antenna Power) Measurement
7. Transmission Radiation Angle Width (3dB Beamwidth) Measurement
8. Duty Cycle Measurement
9. Retention Time
Steps for MIC Certification:
1. Fill out the application form and prepare documentation and samples.
2. Testing organization reviews documentation and conducts preliminary testing of samples.
3. Testing organization formally applies to MIC-accredited institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
4. Institution reviews documents.
5. Sample testing and provision of test reports (can be tested by authorized laboratories).
6. After documents and test reports are approved, MIC certification is issued by Japan's MIC.
1. Technical specifications sheet
2. Quality management system declaration
3. Quality control confirmation method or manufacturer ISO 9001 certificate
4. Construction guarantee confirmation
5. Rated power declaration
6. Antenna report
7. Test report (including test results, test setup photos, and inspections conducted)
8. Block diagrams, schematic diagrams, material lists, parts placement, IC datasheets, internal and external photos, product descriptions, user manuals, operation/technical instructions, accessory descriptions
9. Label information (label position, label content)
10. If you act as an agent or authorized representative of the manufacturer, you also need a power of attorney/authorization letter.
Note: All provided documentation must be in English/Japanese.
Certification period: 3-4 weeks, depending on the specific product features.
1. Product function: Bluetooth function
2. Certification requirement: TELEC certification
3. Certification period: 3-4 weeks
4. Number of samples required: 1 fixed-frequency machine, 1 set of complete machines
5. Local testing required: No
6. Need for local agents: No
Additionally, for TELEC certification certificates, one certificate can only support six models. Starting a new certificate requires an additional $460, and photos must be provided for each model.
Not all wireless products require this Japanese TELEC certification. TELEC certification does not cover 433M and 868MHz products; these two categories of products do not require TELEC certification.
The frequency band and channel factors also affect the cost of Japanese TELEC certification. Generally, the frequency bands used by countries range from channel 1 to 13. However, Japan has 14 channels (the 14th channel is used to support the 802.11b protocol). Products with 14 channels for TELEC certification are more expensive than products with 13 channels.
There are two main differences:
1. Definition:
TELEC (Telecom Engineering Center) is the main registration certification body for compliance with Japanese radio equipment.
MIC (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) is the government agency regulating radio frequency devices in Japan.
2. Main differences:
MIC is Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, responsible for formulating regulations and standards. TELEC is one of the certification agencies designated by MIC. Therefore, both TELEC certification and MIC certification are correct.
