How much does CE certification cost in the UK?

Update time : 2024-07-29

The cost of obtaining a CE certification in the UK is not fixed and primarily depends on two factors: the product and the certification body.

1. Product: Different products fall under different directives, and the testing items will vary, leading to differences in costs.

2. Certification Body: The cost also varies based on the chosen certification body. Well-known and authoritative bodies like SGS, TUV Germany, and ITS UK tend to charge higher fees. Typically, these well-known institutions charge about 50% more than ordinary UK laboratories.

Here are the costs of CE certification in Chinese laboratories, which are about 30% lower than ordinary UK laboratories and around 70% lower than authoritative institutions:

1. Ordinary Low Voltage Products

   - Definition: DC < 75V / AC < 50V / Battery-poweRED / USB-powered.

   - CE-emc certification for ordinary low voltage products costs approximately USD 470, with a processing time of 7-10 working days.

2. Ordinary High Voltage Products

   - Definition: DC > 75V / AC > 50V.

   - ce-lvd and CE-EMC certification for ordinary high voltage products costs approximately USD 700, with a processing time of 7-10 working days.

3. Products with Wireless Functions

   - Definition: Products with frequency transmission functions, such as WIFI, 2.4G, 2G/3G/4G, Bluetooth, etc.

   - CE-RED certification for wireless products costs USD 1330 and above, with a processing time of about 3 weeks. Additionally, if the product can still function normally without the wireless feature, some products may require an additional ordinary CE-EMC report. The exact cost for CE certification of wireless products needs to be evaluated based on the specific product.

Besides the product and certification body, other factors that influence the CE certification cost include urgency of the process and completeness of the documentation.

When choosing a CE certification body, it is recommended to consider the needs of your company. Simply put, if the budget is sufficient and the client values brand recognition and authority, then choosing international well-known institutions like SGS, TUV, or ITS is advisable (some clients may specifically request SGS/TUV institutions).

For those sensitive to the cost of CE certification, NB authorized Chinese laboratories like JJR in China are good options. The costs are more favorable, the certificates are internationally recognized, and the service is reliable.
