Testing costs constitute the largest portion of certification expenses, hence the certification fees vary. For example, an air conditioner and an excavator have different requirements; the air conditioner, being a household appliance, needs to be tested under the LVD and EMC directives, whereas the excavator, being a machinery product, needs to be evaluated under the MD machinery directive. The directives and testing standards are completely different, thus the costs are different.
