EMC electromagnetic compatibility test

1. Introduction

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) mainly studies the interference and anti-interference issues of electronic and electrical products, that is, how to make various electronic and electrical devices, equipment or systems work normally without interfering with each other and achieve compatibility.

EMC is divided into two categories: EMI and EMS.

EMI refers to the emission characteristics of a device: the characteristics of a device emitting electromagnetic interference to the outside.

EMS refers to the immunity of equipment: the ability of equipment to resist external electromagnetic interference. The more sensitive the equipment, the worse the immunity.

2. EMC electromagnetic compatibility test product scope and test standards

1. IT Information Category:
EMC Standard: EN 55022/en 55024  has been updated to en55032, EN55035.
Common products include: personal computers, telephones, scanners, routers, accounting machines, printers, bookkeeping machines, calculators, cash registers, copiers, data circuit terminal equipment, data preprocessing equipment, data processing equipment, data terminal equipment, dictation equipment, shredders, copiers, power adapters, chassis power supplies, digital cameras, etc.

2. AV Category
EMC Standard: EN 55013/EN 55020   has been updated to EN55032, EN55035.
Common products include: speakers, audio and video teaching equipment, video projectors, video cameras and video monitors, amplifiers, DVDs, record players and CD players CRT TVs, LCD TVs, recorders, radios, etc.

3. Household Appliances

Common products include: Electric kettle, electric kettle, meat slicer, juicer, juicer, microwave oven, solar water heater, household electric fan, disinfection cabinet, air conditioner compressor refrigerator, range hood gas water heater, etc.

4.EMC standard for lighting: EN 55015/EN 61547:
Common products include: lamp tube, ball lamp, tunnel lamp, mining lamp, street lamp, fluorescent lamp, table lamp, floor lamp, ceiling lamp, wall lamp, electronic ballast
, lampshade, ceiling spotlight, cabinet lighting, light strip, etc.

5. Medical equipment:
EMC standard: YY0505: 2012  latest standard: EN 55011: 2016/A11: 2020
common products include: radiation therapy device, electrocardiogram tester, analytical instrument, ozone therapy device, fumigation therapy device, ultraviolet light therapy device, spectrum therapy device, radio frequency comprehensive therapy device, ultrasonic nebulizer, etc.

6. Residential, commercial, and light industrial

EMC standards: en 61000-6-3, en61000-6-1

Residential, commercial buildings, light industrial environments

Common products: Light industrial machinery and equipment, electrical equipment for light industrial environments, electrical equipment for commercial buildings

7. Heavy industry

EMC standards: EN 61000-6-4, EN61000-6-2

Heavy industrial environment

Common products: various heavy industrial machinery and equipment, electric control boxes

8. Measuring and testing instruments and laboratory equipment

EMC standard: EN 61326-1

Common products: various test instruments, laboratory electrical equipment, sensors, etc.

9. Others

3. EMC conventional test items

1. EMI inspection items

① Harmonic current (2nd to 40th harmonic)

②Flicker

③Conduction interference (CE)

④Radiated disturbance (RE)

2. EMS inspection items

①. Electrostatic discharge immunity (ESD);

②. Radiated electromagnetic field (80MHz~1000 MHz) immunity (RS);

③. Electrical fast transient/burst immunity;

④. Surge (lightning) immunity;

⑤. Injection current (150kHz~230MHz) immunity (CS);

⑥. Voltage sag and short interruption immunity

IV. EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility Test Sample Requirements

EMC electromagnetic compatibility testing requires that the product is in normal working condition. When the manufacturer arranges to send samples, the corresponding input and output loads and accessories must be sent together. The corresponding wiring instructions and installation requirements must be sent to the laboratory for confirmation in advance. If the test software needs to be installed, the software instructions must be sent to the laboratory together. Two sets of conventional supporting products are sufficient.

5. EMC electromagnetic compatibility test cycle

The electromagnetic compatibility test can be completed in about 2-3 weeks after receiving the test samples and fees. If there are special requirements, it can be expedited. If the test fails and rectification is required, the cycle will be postponed.
