An electric blanket is a contact-type electric heating appliance that embeds or stitches a specially designed, insulated heating element in a serpentine pattern within the blanket. When powered, it generates heat. Products with similar principles and structures include heating pads, electric mattress pads, and heating cushions. For export to the United States, a UL certification test report is typically required.
1. UL 964 Standard: Covers electric blankets, bed covers, comforters, sheets, mattress pads, mattresses, heated boots, and other bedding that conforms to the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70). Operates on a 120V AC circuit.
2. All heating pads must include wiring connections and be equipped with a switch or 1-2 user-controlled temperature regulators. Heating pads may also be controlled by temperature-regulating devices.
3. Heating pads intended for non-120V AC circuits or for use with waterbeds or mechanical beds must undergo additional studies based on their intended use.
