CE Certification for Electronic Devices

Views :
Update time : 2024-07-31

Products from any country must undergo CE certification to enter the European Union (EU) and affix the ce mark on the product. Therefore, CE certification acts as a passport for products to enter the markets of EU and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries. Products with the CE mark will reduce risks when sold in the European market, including the risk of being detained and investigated by customs or market supervision agencies.

CE Certification - Types of Certificates

1. Declaration of Conformity / Declaration of Compliance: Self-issued by the enterprise.

2. Certificate of Compliance: Issued by relevant authorities.

3. EC Attestation of Conformity: Issued by a Notified Body (NB). According to EU regulations, only NBs are qualified to issue EC Type CE declarations.

ce certification process for Electronic and Electrical Devices

1. Fill in the application form, confirm product name, model, quantity, and submit related product information.

2. Quote and payment, application form and certification data review, product sampling.

3. If the data review is approved, a draft certificate is prepared after the product passes the test.

4. The applicant reviews the draft, requests modifications if needed, and the certificate is issued.

Preparation Materials for CE Certification of Electronic and Electrical Devices

1. Certification application form (provided by us) including applicant name, address, product name, model.

2. Product manual (including usage instructions, emergency measures, and detailed technical parameters such as voltage, current, power).

3. Product explosion diagram (structure diagram), schematic diagram, circuit diagram (showing creepage distance, clearance, insulation layers and thickness).

4. List of components (provided by us) including component names, manufacturers, product models, parameters.

5. Copies of certificates for the entire machine and components (if the certificates are valid, some tests may be exempt).

6. Explanation of differences in series models (detailing differences between models to determine if they can be combined into one series).

7. Two working samples: one with the most complex structure and highest power, and one with the lowest power.

8. Copies of business license, production license, and organization code certificate.

9. Other required materials.

Note: All materials must be in English.

CE Certification Standards for Electronic Products

Common CE certification directives for electronic products include the EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), the lvd directive (2014/30/EU), and the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EU).

For general DC products, the EMC Directive (2014/30/EU) is applicable. Common standards under the EMC Directive include:

- Industrial products: EN 55011, EN 50081-2, EN 50082-2.

- EMI/Conducted emission tests: EN 55011

- radiated emission tests: EN 55011

- EMS/Conducted immunity tests: en 61000-4-6

- Radiated immunity tests: EN 61000-4-3

- ESD immunity tests: EN 61000-4-2

- Fast transient/burst immunity tests: EN 61000-4-4

- Power frequency magnetic field immunity tests: EN 61000-4-8

- Surge immunity tests: EN 61000-4-5

- Voltage dips and short interruptions immunity tests: EN 61000-4-11

- Other standards: EN 55013, EN 55014, EN 55015.

For equipment with an AC voltage of 50~1000V or a DC voltage of 75~1500V, both EMC and LVD directives are required. Common LVD standards include:

- Household appliances (EN 60335)

- Lighting products (EN 60598)

- Audio-visual products (en 60065)

- Information technology products (en 60950)

- Electrical machinery (EN 60204)

- Measuring instruments (EN 61010).

For products categorized as machinery, the MD directive applies. Common standards include:

- EN ISO 12100:2010

- EN 60204-1:2006+A1:2009+AC:2010.

Main Factors Affecting ce certification costs

Generally, for DC products, CE certification involving the EMC directive costs around $500. For AC products, involving both EMC and LVD directives, costs range from $700 to $1100. These are the costs from the Chinese JJR laboratory, which are approximately 30% lower than other laboratories and 70% lower than Notified Bodies. Costs depend on the certification body and relevant directives for the product. Mechanical products' CE certification costs are significantly higher due to factory audit procedures and evaluations.

Time Required for CE Certification of Electronic Products

Certification usually takes about a week from when samples arrive at the testing laboratory, excluding rectification time. Expedited processing is available if needed.
