Multimedia electronic products refer to electronic devices that combine multiple forms of media, such as text, images, audio, and video. These mainly include smartphones, tablets, multimedia players, LED TVs, monitors, electronic whiteboards, touch screens, teaching integrated machines, multimedia speakers, Bluetooth speakers, microphones, karaoke machines, etc.
Multimedia products in the EU market need to apply for CE certification and must comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards en55032 and EN55035 according to relevant regulations. Below are detailed requirements for multimedia products in the EU market:
EN55032 standard pertains to the limits and measurement methods of radio disturbance characteristics of multimedia equipment.
- EN55032 Standard: This is the European standard for electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment, specifying the emission and immunity requirements of multimedia equipment in the electromagnetic environment. It applies to multimedia equipment with AC or DC rated voltage not exceeding 600V, including information technology equipment, audio equipment, video equipment, broadcast receivers, lighting control equipment, or their combinations.
- Major Changes: Replaces the old EN 55013 (AV equipment EMC standard) and EN 55022 (traditional IT equipment EMC standard).
- Testing Items: Includes conducted emission tests, radiated emission tests, and immunity tests.
EN55035 standard pertains to the immunity requirements of multimedia equipment in the electromagnetic environment.
- EN55035 Standard: This is the European standard for electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment regarding immunity requirements. It specifies the immunity requirements for multimedia equipment to withstand disturbances from other devices or electromagnetic sources.
- New Testing Items: Includes repetitive bandwidth pulse noise interference and single bandwidth pulse noise interference tests.
- Implementation Date: Officially issued on January 28, 2018, and mandatory enforcement date is July 28, 2022.
EN55035 is a standard developed by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) to ensure that multimedia equipment has adequate immunity capabilities in the electromagnetic environment, enabling them to operate normally and avoid causing unacceptable electromagnetic interference to other devices.
EN55035 standard applies to various multimedia equipment, including but not limited to:
- Previously categorized EN55020 (AV) products and EN55024 (ITE) products
- Multimedia products for special purposes
1. Frequency Range: Tests cover common frequency bands for wireless communication devices, such as 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, etc.
2. Electromagnetic Field Radiation: Tests the electromagnetic field strength produced by the device in all directions, including X, Y, Z axes.
3. Conducted Electromagnetic Disturbance: Tests the electromagnetic disturbance produced by the device on power lines.
4. Transient Pulse Immunity: Tests whether the device can operate normally under extreme conditions like transient voltage fluctuations and lightning strikes.
5. Radio Disturbance and Immunity: Evaluates whether the device interferes with other wireless communication devices and its own anti-interference capabilities.
EN55035 standard sets clear requirements for the electromagnetic compatibility of equipment, including:
1. Radiated Power Limit: The radiated power of the device in each frequency band must not exceed the specified value.
2. Electromagnetic Field Strength Limit: The electromagnetic field strength at 1 meter distance from the device must not exceed the specified value.
3. Distance and Time Requirements: The device needs to be installed in a specified location to simulate actual usage scenarios, and the testing time is generally several hours to evaluate the device's performance over extended periods.
Compared to the old standard, EN55035 has added the following testing items:
1. Repetitive Bandwidth Pulse Noise Interference: Testing requirements include limit values at different frequency levels within the 0.15MHz to 30MHz range.
2. Single Bandwidth Pulse Noise Interference: Similarly tests the frequency range within 0.15MHz to 30MHz.
EN55035 standard was officially issued on January 28, 2018, with a mandatory enforcement date of July 28, 2022. Before this date, EN55020 and EN55024 remain the harmonized standards under EMCD.
Based on voltage and current requirements, multimedia electronic products must also comply with:
1. EN 62368-1: Safety requirements for audio/video, information, and communication technology equipment, which is the adapter standard for products like TVs and sound systems.
2. EN 61000-3-2: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Part 3: Limits Section 2: Limits for harmonic current emissions (equipment input current ≤16A per phase).
3. EN 61000-3-3: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Part 3-3: Limits - Limitation of voltage changes, voltage fluctuations, and flicker in public low-voltage supply systems, for equipment with rated current ≤16A.
