Recently, Amazon Canada has delisted a large number of electric kettle products because they could not provide test reports compliant with CSA C22.1.
CSA C22.1, known as the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CE Code), sets safety standards for the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment across all voltages. It aims to prevent fire and electric shock hazards, including electric shock, thermal effects, overcurrent, fault currents, and overvoltage.
CSA C22.1 references other terminal product standards, such as CSA C22.2 NO. 46 for electric air-heaters and CSA C22.2 NO. 64 for household cooking and liquid-heating appliances. These terminal standards, in their Scope sections, also refer to CSA C22.1. For instance, the Scope section of CSA C22.2 NO. 64 mentions CSA C22.1, indicating that corresponding terminal standards within the CSA series work in conjunction with CSA C22.1.
On September 1, 2023, Amazon Canada announced that listings for electric kettle products must provide documents compliant with CSA C22.1. This policy also applies to any products that heat water in devices that may contain lead, such as drip coffee makers, stove-top espresso machines, and moka pots, even if they are not labeled as "kettles." Suppliers should obtain test reports in compliance with CSA C22.2 NO. 64 or CSA C22.2 NO. 60335-2-15. These standards work in conjunction with CSA C22.1, and having a test report for these standards can prove compliance with CSA C22.1.
