Electrical products must be certified according to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) published by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Provinces and territories across Canada have incorporated the Canadian Electrical Code into their respective laws and regulations. The code mandates that electrical equipment must be approved by a certification body recognized by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). You can find a complete list of approved certification marks on the SCC website.
In addition to the Canadian Electrical Code, individual provinces have additional regulations, such as:
- Ontario's Electricity Act, 1998, and its product safety regulations
- British Columbia's Safety Standards Act, and its electrical safety regulations
