With the development of audio and video multimedia technology, the integration of audio-visual equipment and information technology devices has become increasingly high, and their boundaries are becoming more blurred. In response to this situation, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) issued IEC 62368-1 in 2010, covering safety standards for audio-visual, consumer electronics, and information communication technology products. In the future, IEC 62368-1 will, to some extent, completely replace the existing IEC 60950-1 (Information Technology ITE) and IEC 60065 (Audio/Video) standards.
Since the introduction of the IEC 62368-1 standard, it has been continuously updated and improved. The third edition of IEC 62368-1 was officially released on October 4, 2018, after some delays. The third edition includes the following significant technical changes compared to the second edition:
- Added requirements for outdoor equipment (incorporating IEC 60950-22 requirements);
- New requirements for optical radiation (based on IEC 60825-1 and IEC 62471);
- Added requirements for liquid insulation materials;
- Added requirements for work units accessible to people (incorporating IEC 60950-23 requirements);
- Added requirements for wireless charging transmitters;
- Added requirements for fully insulated winding wires;
- Added optional methods for determining fire protection for the upper and edge openings of enclosures;
- Added optional requirements for sound pressure;
- Added IEC 62368-3 requirements for power supplied via communication lines (incorporating IEC 60950-21 into IEC 62368-3).
Currently, most countries have planned the mandatory implementation date of the IEC 62368-1 standard by the end of 2020. Although the TRF corresponding to IEC 62368-1: 2018 (third edition) was published on January 17, 2019, on the IECEE official website, manufacturers can theoretically apply for cb certification under the third edition standard. However, only a few countries have published their national differences, and there are still issues in actual international transfer certification. Therefore, our recommended approach is for manufacturers to apply for both IEC 60065: 2014 and IEC 62368-1 third edition simultaneously when applying for CB certification for audio-visual products.
In addition, we can help audio-visual, consumer electronics, and information communication technology product manufacturers prepare in advance, enabling your innovative products to reach multiple markets safely while effectively controlling the human, time, and cost impact caused by standard transitions.
