As Amazon’s strategic position in global commerce continues to strengthen, any powered products listed on Amazon require a relevant UL report. A test report issued by a laboratory with ISO 17025 accreditation is necessary for normal sales and link restoration. If a competitor or customer purchases a product without the corresponding safety compliance report, they may engage a U.S. attorney to send a letter to Amazon requesting the suspension of the product’s sales and initiate legal proceedings to destroy all of the company's inventory on Amazon. This could effectively expel the company from the North American market. Many sellers have reported receiving related notifications, and their products were suspended or delisted due to failure to provide a UL test report within the required time.
For different types of products, corresponding UL standards are required:
- IT and AV products must comply with UL 62368-1.
- Class 2 low-voltage power supplies, including chargers, must comply with UL1310.
- Non-Class 2 low-voltage power supplies, including chargers, must comply with UL1012.
- Power banks must comply with UL2056.
- Car chargers must meet UL2089 requirements.
- Car power inverters must comply with UL458.
- Power supplies for toys must meet UL697.
- Medical power supplies must comply with UL60601-1.
- Wireless products must also follow UL 62368-1.
- Household appliances should meet one or more of the following standards: UI1007, UL1005, UL1028, UL1083, UL982, or UL1026.
- Industrial products, especially transformers, should comply with standards such as UL1310, UL1012, UL506, UL1561, UL1562, UL1585, UL1876, UL1411, UL397, and UL697.
1. The applicant submits an application.
2. The applicant fills out the application form and provides manuals and technical documents.
3. The applicable testing standards and items are determined, and a quotation is issued.
4. After confirming the quotation, the applicant submits product samples and related technical documents.
5. A payment notice is issued, and the applicant pays the certification fee accordingly.
6. The laboratory arranges for product testing.
7. If the product fails the test, the applicant is notified and allowed to make improvements. Testing will continue until the product passes, and the applicant must update the technical documents to reflect any changes.
8. Once the product passes, a UL test report is issued to the applicant.
Applicants need to prepare the following documents:
- Company information form and a copy of the business license (for first-time UL applicants).
- Product description, including product name and model.
- A list of components, specifying names, models, ratings, and manufacturers. If components are UL-certified, their UL file numbers should be provided. Multiple suppliers for a single component can be listed.
- Performance specifications, including dimensions, rated voltage, current, frequency, and power.
- Structural or exploded diagrams, with all parts clearly labeled to correspond with the component list.
- Circuit schematics, including PCB schematics and PCB layouts.
- Product photos, user manuals, safety instructions, and installation guides.
The specific cost depends on the product’s features and testing requirements. (You can consult China JJR Laboratory for a detailed quotation based on your product information.)
The typical lead time is 5 to 7 business days.
Note: If the relevant UL standard has not been updated, the UL test report remains valid indefinitely.
- UL Certification is a voluntary certification that requires both product testing and regular factory audits (quarterly). It is expensive, time-consuming, and involves strict factory inspections.
- UL Test Report only involves testing the product against the relevant UL standard. It has lower costs, shorter lead times, and does not require a factory audit. It is sufficient for Amazon listing reviews and customs clearance.
